We have the great platforms for developing websites and web applications in recent times. We call them content management systems. There are several, not a couple of. Some are versatile like WordPress, Joomla and Drupal; and others are dedicated for the eCommerce, such as Magneto, Prestashop, Shopify etc. I have just told you a few names, there are several more budding content management systems.
Among all, the most
popular ones are WordPress, Joomla!, and Drupal. These three are
considered versatile by the developers as they can be used for creating
any type of website, be it a blog based website, or an eCommerce
website, or an enterprise website.
How do you determine if one is the best?
Is it possible to refer a content management? I don’t think it is not good to designate a content management system as the best, because, each one has its own limitation and own specialty. Moreover, our nature remains biased towards the things we like, therefore, the users of “this” system, consider it the best over the “other” content management system.
So, there is no point in
fighting over the issue to declare the particular CMS as the best. But,
which one should be chosen as your solution, depends on some parameters.
Ease of use ( UI/UX of the dashboard)
The most important factor considered by the developers is the ease of use for their clients. If their clients are not very tech-savvy, then they usually prefer WordPress for making websites. The back-end of WordPress is very easy to use, the novice admin of website feels easy to use the dashboard, and managing the website. Indeed, the WordPress is very easy to learn and making websites is also very easy. This is the major reason that beginners get attracted towards WordPress.
Growing level of content
The WordPress was born for blogging, but with the passage of time, it grew as a full fledge content management system. Thus, the instinctive behavior of it is to manage the content oriented websites. WordPress is best suitable for those websites, whose content will grow with the time.
Complexity of the website
The complexity of the website is the decisive factor for choosing the right content management system. It is well known about the Drupal that most of the Government websites and enterprise level website have been built using it, since it is the robust candidate for managing the complexities of such websites. Where multiple admins are required for managing a website and the structure is very complex, Drupal suits the best.
Getting stronger with every release, The Joomla! stands in the middle. It is better for scalable websites as well as enterprise websites.
The designing matters the least
The designing is the decisive factor to choose a content management system. The template system is common among all. The look and feel doesn’t depend on the CMS, there are different template generators available in the market that help in making templates for different systems. You can choose one for you that supports the specific content management system. One name that is gaining appreciation is TemplateToaster. It supports all of the three management system- WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal.
